چکیده

We consider a simple modal logic whose non-modal part has conjunction and disjunction as connectives and whose modalities come in adjoint pairs, but are not in general closure operators. Despite absence of negation and implication, and of axioms corresponding to the characteristic axioms of (e.g.) T, S4 and S5, such logics are useful, as shown in previous work by Baltag, Coecke and the first author, for encoding and reasoning about information and misinformation in multi-agent systems. For such a logic we present an algebraic semantics, using lattices with agent-indexed families of adjoint pairs of operators, and a cut-free sequent calculus. The calculus exploits operators on sequents, in the style of “nested” or “tree-sequent” calculi; cut-admissibility is shown by constructive syntactic methods. The applicability of the logic is illustrated by reasoning about the muddy children puzzle, for which the calculus is augmented with extra rules to express the facts of the muddy children scenario.

A Logic for Reasoning About Game Strategies

This paper introduces a modal logic for reasoning about game strategies. The logic is based on a variant of the well-known game description language for describing game rules and further extends it with two modalities for reasoning about actions and strategies. We develop an axiomatic system and prove its soundness and completeness with respect to a specific semantics based on the state transit...

An Adjunction-Theoretic Foundation for Proof Search in Intuitionistic First-Order Categorical Logic Programming

In this thesis we compose a proof-theoretic approach to logic programming with a category-theoretic approach to proof theory. This allows us to present the computation mechanisms of several systems of logic programming as proof search strategies within an intuitionistic first-order sequent calculus with logic variables and to analyze aspects of their behavior algebraically. Beginning from the b...

Multi-Adjoint Logic Programming

A synthesis of results of the recently introduced paradigm of multi-adjoint logic programming is presented. These results range from a proof theory together with some (quasi)completeness results to general termination results, and from the neural-like implementation of its fix-point semantics to the more general biresiduated multi-adjoint logic programming and its relationship with other approa...

Fitch-Style Modal Lambda Calculi

Fitch-style modal deduction, in which modalities are eliminated by opening a subordinate proof, and introduced by shutting one, were investigated in the 1990s as a basis for lambda calculi. We show that such calculi have good computational properties for a variety of intuitionistic modal logics. Semantics are given in cartesian closed categories equipped with an adjunction of endofunctors, with...

The logic of quantum programs

We present a logical calculus for reasoning about information flow in quantum programs. In particular we introduce a dynamic logic that is capable of dealing with quantum measurements, unitary evolutions and entanglements in compound quantum systems. We give a syntax and a relational semantics in which we abstract away from phases and probabilities. We present a sound proof system for this logi...
